SUB-MARINE ELECTRIC HARBOR BORE

Project Details

Location: Freeport, NY

Install six 6” Electrical Conduits 1,200 feet under Freeport Harbor

Contractor: Peter Scalamandre & Sons, Inc.

Thomas Hayes; (516) 868-3000

Owner: Village of Freeport

Al Livingston; (516) 377-2262

Equipment Used: Underground Professionals UPI-250

Original Cost: $1,082,841.00

Final Cost: $1,053,841.00

Start Date: January 21, 2019

Completion Date: February 26, 2019

Conditions: Install Six 6” HDPE Electrical Conduits under the Freeport Harbor and Marina. The existing Submarine Cables were failing from Super Storm Sandy and they needed to be buried to prevent future storm damage.

Challenges: There was a gravity sewer siphon installed on piles and cradles under the harbor with very poor as-built information in order to avoid damaging it. The drill was accomplished with the use of a gyro steering system, wire-line was not usable due to the high concentration of steel in the harbor and the ice sheet that prevented divers from installing the tracking wires.

Claims: There were no claims and there was a discount given due to the Village owned Electric Company giving us free power to heat the equipment on cold nights.
