HIGH TRAFFIC GAS MAIN BORE

Project Details

Location: Uniondale, NY

Installation of 1,680 lf of 8” Steel Gas Main under a busy commercial roadway.

Contractor: Posillico Civil, Inc.

Peter Brindley; (631) 249-1872

Customer: National Grid Gas

Equipment Used: Underground Professionals UPI-250

Original Cost: $449,500.00

Final Cost: $734,500.00

Start Date: September 19, 2016

Completion Date: October 21, 2016

Conditions: Install an 8” Steel welded gas main under Charles Lindberg Blvd, The Meadowbrook Parkway and Merrick Road

Challenges: Charles Lindberg Boulevard is the main entrance to Hofstra University, Nassau Community College and the Nassau Coliseum. The Meadowbrook Parkway carries over 400,000 commuter vehicles a day across Nassau County. The extremely high traffic counts made the placement of the locating wires difficult. Therefore, we were forced to split the locating wires into several loops, which complicates the accuracy of the numbers. The entire pipe string was welded together in Eisenhower Park, hydro tested and coating checked before installation. Two cranes were brought in to lift the steel to create a safe arching radius in the product pipe to prevent damage to the coating.

Claims: There were none.
